The Citi Foundation granted $100 000 to the Charitable Fund United Way of Russia for the new program “Future starts today” Moscow – Charitable Fund United Way of Russia is launching a new Citi Foundation funded program “Future starts today”. 150 young people aged between 14-18 years will have an opportunity to get additional classes before entry to high schools. This program will take place at 3 children centres: Taganka children’s Fund, Preodolenie-L and Kovcheg. Children from trouble families will be able to attend the lessons. As a rule, they don’t’ have a chance to get adequate education and have to work on poorly-paid positions. Enrollment of participants will be conducted together with local schools. The course is tailored by the high schools and higher institutions so that it better equips young people for their next stage of education. Tatiana Zadirako, Executive Director of Charitable Fund United Way of Russia: “The aim of the program is to give a chance for children at risk to open another world. Children have to determine their interests; to identify the high school or college they want to enter. Based on these requirements, children will study special subjects that will help them pass their exams. As well as getting extra support for core lessons like Russian, English, Mathematics, the initiative also enables youngsters to learn about professional skills like psychology’s basis or graphics and etc.” Tatiana Avramenko, Community Relations Officer at ZAO Citibank noted: “Education is a critical asset that young people need in order to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families. So the more literate you are the more opportunities there are likely to be for you to get jobs that lead to economic self sufficiency. This initiative will enable young people to get extra support that will help them unlock their educational potential. The project will be implemented during the year, and the direction of future development will be determined by results. *** The Citi Foundation is committed to enhancing economic opportunities for underserved individuals and families in the communities where we work throughout the world.
